| During summer 2002, I was on a three-month visit
at the Open Door
Community as a resident volunteer. Gladys Rustay, a Partner at the Open Door, suggested that I work on a
project to show natural beauty as seen by those who live and sleep on the
streets of Atlanta.
Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder, especially
when you carry your home in a garbage sack through the hot and humid sidewalks
of Atlanta. Everyday things, even trash, can take a whole new meaning if your
survival may depend on them. Natural things, plants and animals can become your
friends when mainstream human company is denied to you. |
